This summer, step into the past with our special edition walking tour series, celebrating eight and a half centuries of Glasgow’s vibrant history for Glasgow's 850th birthday. From May to September, we have a different themed tour on offer, each one diving into a different era of the city’s incredible story. Whether you're a proud Glaswegian or discovering the city for the first time, these tours are your ticket to uncovering hidden gems, untold tales, and iconic landmarks.

JULY TOUR

THE HIDDEN HISTORY OF SAUCHIEHALL STREET

From scandalous court cases to stylish 1930s splendour, join guide Tommy for this 1.5-hour walking tour down Glasgow’s most iconic thoroughfare. Sauchiehall Street has been the beating heart of the city’s nightlife, culture, and creativity for over a century, and its stories are every bit as bold as its neon lights.

We’ll trace the path from political giants to ghostly legends, forgotten cinemas to glamorous hotels, with tales of artists, anarchists, socialites, and subversives along the way. This tour peels back the layers of Sauchiehall’s past, and reveals a few skeletons hiding in the closets of Glasgow’s grandest facades.

AUGUST TOUR

HOW GLASGOW BUILT THE WORLD: THE SPARK OF IMAGINATION TO THE FLAMES OF INDUSTRY

Wander the cobbled streets of Glasgow’s Merchant City with tour guide Dave, and uncover the stories of rebels, reformers, and revolutionary thinkers who helped shape the city’s future.

From the world’s first professional police force to hot air balloon flights, early vlogging, and music legends, this walking tour celebrates the people who dared to dream differently. Learn about David Dale, the philanthropic merchant who built a better working world, and Hugh MacDonald, the pioneering “people’s journalist.” Stand in the footsteps of James Watt as he tinkered with the engine that helped fuel the Industrial Revolution. Explore the complex legacy of the Glasgow Merchants, and discover how some Glaswegians used their wealth and influence not for power, but for progress.
