Five of the best cafes in Birmingham

Birmingham is rich in museums and things to do, as we covered in a recent blog post. It is also filled with fantastic restaurants, including Michelin star winners. We’ve loved focusing on Birmingham lately and feel as if there is still so much to cover on the city! That’s why today, we’re focusing on our favourite cafes the city has to offer.
1. Chance and Counters
Boardgames are a delight for those of all ages. Chance and Counters specialises in being a boardgame cafe – it boasts over 500 boardgames to choose from. Food-wise it may not be the healthiest, though it sure is delicious. Whether you opt for wings, tacos, burgers or fries, you are sure to leave the place feeling satisfied.

2. Juju’s Cafe
Located by the scenic canal side, this family-run business serves pancakes, eggs, cocktails and everything in between. Apparently, the restaurant is run by Julia and the name “Juju” comes from the nickname her young nephew used to call her. She said it seemed fitting that the cafe was named after a personal nickname as “everyone that walks through our front door should feel like they’re part of our family.” Isn’t that sweet?!

3. Cherry Red’s
The aim of the cafe is to make sure that the customer leaves happy. What with the fantastic menu, we are sure that most customers do leave happy. The place seems particularly popular for breakfast, especially for tourists as there is a hotel just opposite. We loved looking through the menu, browsing through all the sumptuous meals on offer… We think the cafe’s namesake, the cherry pie, looks the best!

4. Yorks
Another one for breakfast, Yorks is certainly worth a stop for a bite to eat. It has won several awards, including being named one of the best brunch spots in the UK by The Sunday Times and The Observer. The menu has a range of meals, from traditional eggs benedict to less traditional, such as arabian buttered eggs.

5. Kitty Cafe
In our last blog post, we mentioned that Leeds had a cat cafe – well, Birmingham does too! Located at Grand Central Station, it is in an ideal location. Spend a few hours watching and interacting with Hagrid, Bellatrix, Sirius, Lily and the rest of the feline friends. (We did notice many cats do seem to have Potter-inspired names!
