We have recently started up tours of South Queensferry and Inchcolm Island – we’re so excited to share the history of these places with all of you! To celebrate the launch of these tours, we decided to speak to some of the tour guides about their love for the town and their recommendations… The tours, after all, wouldn’t be what they are without the guides. Read on to hear from Marion and Heidi!

Marion

How many years have you lived here?
I’ve lived in South Queensferry for over 35 years.

How does it feel to be giving tours of South Queensferry?
I am so excited to be giving tours for visitors. I love living here, it often feels like a stage set it is so quaint.

What is your favourite fact about the town?
My favourite fact is that no one really knows why the Burry man walks every year and yet it keeps on happening.

What are the hidden gems in the town?
The mosaic of the High Street is hidden away in a back street and is an amazing community effort.

How has the town changed over the years?
The town has changed so much since we moved here. It used to be a little known small place but now is buzzing and attracts visitors from all over the world.

Finally, do you have any restaurant/cafe recommendations for the place?
All of the bars and restaurants are great. There is such a variety – something for everyone

Heidi

How many years have you lived here?
I have lived in Edinburgh for four years.

How does it feel to be giving tours of South Queensferry?
I feel really excited to share some interesting facts about SQ and the surrounding area.

What is your favourite fact about the place?
I think that the Forth Rail bridge is a fascinating structure and the fact that it is held together with 6.5 million rivets and also the way in which the rivets were hammered into the pieces of steel.

What are the hidden gems in the town?
The beaches along the fifth of forth and the woodland paths for walking & cycling.

How has the town changed over the years?
I think SQ is a little stuck in time because of the historical background which maintains its character but there are some nice new bars and cafes.

Finally, do you have any restaurant/café recommendations for the place?
I had a very good fish & chips at Maurizio’s chip shop not too long ago. The Manna house bakery & patisserie is very good too!
